Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

The overall purpose of the role is to ensure best practice is applied to all purchasing tasks and functions, maintaining compliance with AFE and legislative guidance and law. Negotiate with all suppliers to gain the most competitive deals for the business. Liaise with other AFE purchasing teams to benchmark, share best practice, investigate group deals where applicable. Manage, review stock levels to ensure they are conducive to the business levels and requirements.

Grow and manage a team, you will ideally be looking to take the next step towards becoming the Purchasing Manager over the next 12 months.

Primary responsibilities will include, however are not limited to:

  • Advise and establish best purchasing practice and guide the team in making sound commercial purchases and decisions.
  • Create purchasing procedures and processes and train staff accordingly.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to gain the most competitive deals, payment terms and rebates.
  • Build supplier relations and conduct frequent supplier performance reviews.
  • Constantly suggest ways of reducing costs.
  • Research potential new suppliers for hard-to-find parts in conjunction with the technical team.
  • Review stock levels, establish and maintain min / max levels.
  • Maintain stock levels conducive to business needs and requirements.
  • Review slow, aged and non-moving stock levels in line with the company’s financial provisions and propose periodic scrap out or surplus stocks.
  • Liaise with other AFE purchasing teams to share best practice and represent Serviceline on Group purchasing meetings.

  • Able to coach, support and motivate team members.
  • Ability to build and manage a team going forward.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to forge relationships with strategic suppliers.
  • Excellent level of IT literacy.
  • Able to create and review analytical data and present to the senior management team.
  • History of people management within a Purchasing environment.
  • Previous experience of working within purchasing and stock management.
  • Ideally working towards CIPS but not crucial.
  • Able to work as on their own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and communicate across all teams in a timely manner.
